Vernon College

Vernon College offers a program in surgical tehnology which prepares students to take a national certification examination to be a Certified Surgical Technologist. Students come to KWRH for clinical rotations in the surgery department where they work closely with certified surgery technicians, along with nurses and surgeons.

A surgical technologist (ST) performs a vital role in the operating room for the surgical patient.  Their role as a member of the surgical team includes establishing and maintaining the sterile field for the surgical procedure, assisting with draping the patient, passing instruments and supplies to the surgeon and assisting the Registered Nurse (RN) with patient positioning and transfer after the procedure.

Another program offered by Vernon College is the Pharmacy Technician course.  These students complete a 2 semester program that prepares them to take a national certification exam.  Students develop skills in the techniques required to order, stock, package, type labels, prepare medications, operate computerized dispensing systems, prepare insurance claims and maintain written or computerized patient medication records.  Pharmacy technicians assist and support licensed pharmacists in providing health care and medications to patients.
