Nuclear Medicine

Kell West Nuclear Medicine offers a comfortable environment for small field imaging over the standard large field imaging present at most hospitals. Large field imaging requires the patient to lie on an uncomfortable hard metal table for the duration of the imaging and has a weight limit of 275 pounds.

At Kell West, the patient sits in a comfortable recliner and if the patient so desires he or she can watch TV during the imaging process. There is also no weight limit for the study. From a comfort level perspective, a "daylight and dark" difference is commonly noted by patients who have been imaged both ways.

Scans performed:

  • Thyroid

  • Gallbladder

  • HIDA

  • Parathyroid

  • Gastric emptying

  • Hepatobiliary

Breast Specific Gamma Imaging (BSGI)

Breast Specific Gamma Imaging (BSGI) provides information like no other breast imaging modality. With 99% accuracy it can image breast cancers as small as 3mm - too small for mammography or ultrasound to detect. BSGI is very sensitive and specific which gives it a distinct advantage over the sensitive but nonspecific MRI of the breast.
